Rolling Stone: Why do you think people reacted so strongly to you in the 1960s ? What did you reach in people that resonated so deeply?
Bob Dylan: Because I had -- and perhaps still do have -- that originality that others don't have. Because I come from a time when you had to be original, and you had to have some kind of God-given talent just to begin with. You couldn't manufacture that. Just about everybody and anybody who was around in the Fifties and Sixties had a degree of originality. That was the only way you could get in the door. That was just a necessary part of your makeup, which needed to be there.

Rolling Stone: Tell me about George Harrison.
Bob Dylan: George got stuck with being the Beatle that had to fight to get songs on records because of Lennon and McCartney. Well, who wouldn't get stuck? If George had had his own group and was writing his own songs back then, he'd have been probably just as big as anybody. George had an uncanny ability to just play chords that didn't seem to be connected in any kind of way and come up with a melody and a song. I don't know anybody else who could do that, either. What can I tell you? He was from that old line of playing where every note was a note to be counted.

Rolling Stone: What was your relationship with John Lennon like? Somewhat competitive?
Bob Dylan: Yeah. Only to a certain extent, but not really. Him and McCartney both, really, they were fantastic singers. Lennon, to this day, it's hard to find a better singer than Lennon was, or than McCartney was and still is. I'm in awe of McCartney. He's about the only one that I am in awe of. He can do it all. And he's never let up. He's got the gift for melody, he's got the rhythm, he can play any instrument. He can scream and shout as good as anybody, and he can sing a ballad as good as anybody. And his melodies are effortless, that's what you have to be in awe of. … He's just so damn effortless. I just wish he'd quit [laughs]. Everything that comes out of his mouth is just framed in melody.

its so funny. i love that skit so much haha
it’s one of my favourites out of the ones that I’ve seen so far :) I was actually going to change it today to “this is an ex-parrot” but I’ve gotten so used to my title now so I’ll think i’ll keep it for a while.

I should really get some good speakers for my record player. I’m using the record player that my parents bought about 20 years ago (I think..they might have bought it earlier than that though) and it’s in great condition and I love it but the speakers broke the first time we moved and I started using 2 tiny speakers from the surround sound system for our dvd player but I think one of...

No Doubt used to be my favourite band (I still love them but I don’t listen to them as often as I used to) and I used to listen to Tragic Kingdom pretty much every single day and Gwen was my hero and I just love her and the band even more after seeing that video.

3rdplanet asked: Vivien!! Wow, I've been meaning to write here for ages, but the holidays are keeping my head too occupied with all the presents and festivities. I got your fantastic postcard :) Thank you so much! I guess it doesn't make much sense sending one to UK now, but I will do it after New Year's when you're back from your break. I'm so bummed I won't make it to Budapest for...

I do this too, it’s so hard not to spend your money on it though when you see a store. It’s like something that’s programmed into your brain after a while, once you see a record store you have to go in and buy something.
Haha exactly, that’s why I try to avoid record stores when I know I shouldn’t...
I think that I might spend too much money on records…But can you really spend too much money on music?
Maybe
but I have no self-control
also I don’t consider it a bad habit or a waste of money so I guess I’ll just keep spending most of my money on records then.
